BEESWAX
ARTISTIC BEESWAX
Show Details
Any artistic or creative endeavor made from pure beeswax.
If apiary or exhibitor mane is an integral part of the design, then name is permitted.
BEESWAX BLOCK
Show Details
An entry consists of a single, plain block of pure, unbleached beeswax, weighing a minimum of one pound.
BEESWAX CANDLES
Show Details
An entry shall consist of one pair of straight candles, plain tapered, dipped or molded, made of pure beeswax.

BREAD
Show Details
YEAST BREAD - NON SWEET Entry is one unsliced loaf or 6 rolls.
Examples of this class are white bread, whole-grained bread, bread rolls.
YEAST BREAD - SWEET Entry is one unsliced loaf, or one unsliced coffee cake or tea ring, or 6 Danish or sweet rolls.
QUICK BREAD LOAF, SWEET Entry is one unsliced coffee cake or tea ring, or 6 doughnuts or 6 muffins.
CAKE
Show Details
Types permitted: layer, sheet, tube, bundt.
Cake may be left unfrosted or may be frosted, filled, glazed or dusted.
Entry is one unsliced cake.
CANDY
Show Details
Candy may be cooked, uncooked, and may be also candied peels and candied fruits.
Entry is 12 pieces.
CONDIMENTS
Show Details
Entry is one-half pint OR one pint in glass jar.
Condiments include salad dressings, barbecue sauces, catsup, pickles, relishes.
COOKIES
Show Details
COOKIES (DROP, REFRIGERATOR, ROLLED OR FILLED) Types permitted: drop, refrigerator, rolled or filled.
Cookies may be frosted, glazed or left unfrosted.
Entry is 12 cookies.
COOKIES (BAR OR SHEET) Entry is bar or sheet (examples of this class are brownies, date bars, baked granola bars, etc.).
Entry may be left unfrosted or may be frosted, glazed, dusted.
Entry is 12 pieces.
JELLIES, JAMS, PRESERVES, CONSERVES
Show Details
Entry is one-half pint OR one pint in glass jar, sealed with lid or paraffin.
Entries may contain fruit juices, whole fruits or crushed fruits.
PIE
Show Details
Crust may be plain pastry, French pastry, crumb.
Pies may be two-crust, one-crust or with meringue.
Entry is one unsliced pie

Show Details

DISPLAYS
EDUCATIONAL EXHIBIT
Show Details
An educational exhibit shall serve to educate the public in some aspect of honey bees or beekeeping.
Materials from any source may be used.
Constraints on dimensions may be imposed by the Show Chairman if space is limited.
HONEY DISPLAY
Show Details
A display shall consist of hive products produced by the exhibitor from his/her own hive(s) and /or apiary.
Artistic endeavors produced from the hive products, e.g., candles from beeswax, are permitted.
Materials from other sources may be used only as an aid to displaying the exhibitor's products.
Constraints on dimensions may be imposed by the Show Chairman if space is limited.
BEEKEEPING ORGANIZATION DISPLAY
Show Details
The purpose of the display is to promote the beekeeping industry by presenting its products, equipment and education material.
The display shall also serve to educate the public about the beekeeping activities in the region that the organization serves.
The display must include the name of the beekeeping organization.
The hive products must be produced by the region's products, e.g. candles from beeswax, are permitted.
Materials from other sources may be used as an aid to displaying the products and to create the educational aspects of the exhibit.
Constraints on dimensions may be imposed by the Show Chairman if space is limited.
Two of the Maryland bee organizations will be invited to exhibit each year, on a rotating basis.

HONEY
Point Scale for Honey Density

GRANULATED
Show Details
Finely granulated honey is completely granulated or solidified, either by natural means or by various controlled processes.
Granulated honey must be exhibited in a wide-mouth, one-pound glass jar.
Entry is one jar.
SECTION COMB
Show Details
Honey contained in the cells of the comb in which it is produced.
Both square sections and round sections must be protected by plastic wrap or container suitable for marketing.
If rigid plastic covers are used forround sections, both must be colorless and transparent.
Entry is one section.
CUT COMB
Show Details
This is bulk comb honey cut into pieces, edges drained, and suitably wrapped or packaged for marketing.
Entry is one piece.
CHUNK COMB
Show Details
This consists of cut-comb honey in a container which is then filled with liquid extracted honey.
Not less than 50% by volume of comb honey must be present in the container.
The container must be a wide-mouth one-pound glass jar suitable for receiving and removing the comb portion.
Entry is one jar.
EXTRACTED
Show Details
Honey that has been separated from the comb by centrifugal force or by other means.
Color will be determined by the USDA permanent glass color standards.
Exhibitors may have assistance in selecting the appropriate color class for the extracted honey entries.
Extracted honey must be in one-pound Queenline glass jars, except in Small-scale Beekeepers Classes.
Beekeepers entering for the first time may exhibit in one-pint glass canning type jars in Small-scale Beekeepers Classes.
Entry is one one-pound jar.
EXTRACTING FRAME
Show Details
A frame of capped honey suitable for extracting.
The entire frame must be protected with plastic wrap or suitable container.
Entry is one frame.

OTHER
EQUIPMENT
Show Details
Entry shall be an original tool or equipment, exhibitor constructed, useful in any aspect of beekeeping.
A written description giving details of construction, materials, cost and labor must accompany the entry.
Apiary and/or exhibitor name permitted if integral part of tool or equipment.
Costs and labor commensurate with utility.
Gift Package, Mailable
Show Details
Gift arrangements/packs must include one or more products of the hive but may also include other items that enhance the appeal or promote the use of hive products.
Mailable gift packs should be suitable for commercial applications and will be judged on mailability.
An entry shall consist of one package.
Gift Pack, Personal
Show Details
Gift arrangements/packs must include one or more products of the hive but may also include other items that enhance the appeal or promote the use of hive products.
Personal gift arrangements should be suitable for personal gift use regardless of commercial applications, and should be in a box, basket or other suitable container.
An entry shall consist of one basket or package.
LABEL
Show Details
The entry shall consist of one marketable container of honey, any size, any form, WITH LABEL design by the exhibitor and affixed to the container.
The container, unless opaque, must contain honey.
Commercial stock labels (e.g. Dadant, Root, etc.) prohibited
Apiary and/or exhibitor name permitted on label.
MEAD
Show Details
Wine made from honey and water must.
Augmented mead may be dry or sweet and may contain fruit juices and/or herbs, spices.
Dry mead under 21/2% sugar content and sweet mead over 21/2% will be determined by the judge by chemical tests after the bottle is opened for judging.
Allowed ingredients in all classes: sulfiting, yeast, yeast nutrients/energizer, tannin, citric acid or acid blends.
Mead must be at least 12 months old and exhibited in Fifth or Quart bottles.
Sparkling mead must be exhibited in champagne bottles with appropriate wired closure.
Entry is one bottle.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Show Details
Entry shall consist of a single black and white OR color print, 5"x7" minimum, suitably framed or mounted.
POLLEN
Show Details
Pollen pellets must be exhibited in 1 lb. glass or clear plastic jars.
Entry shall consist of a single jar.
PRESIDENT'S PRIZE
Show Details
Any creative or artistic endeavor prominently featuring the honey bee, beekeeping or pollination.
If apiary and/or exhibitor name is an integral part of the entry, then name permitted.
