President’s Message, June 2026

Hi all!

What crazy weather we and our bees have all experienced over the past few months.

Some say "What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger." Hmmm.

Does that mean that the colonies that made it through this weather rollercoaster will be our best for the next few years? Or do we survive the tough times for other reasons like renewing our connection to our beekeeping community, or pursuing knowledge and new skills? Maybe we over prepare so that our bees can succeed during the hard times.

When I am faced with a difficult situation, I find great comfort knowing that I am not in this alone. Bouncing information and ideas off our fellow beekeepers is very beneficial and helps us to realize that others are experiencing similar experiences.

At MSBA we are actively working to help all of our members with opportunities of knowledge, growth and fellowship. We have a great June meeting coming up in a week that will celebrate several county clubs reaching 50 years of service to our community. We are engaging with the University of Maryland in a Sentinel program that will help us to understand what is helping and harming our bees, and we are ramping up our popular educational programs so that more of our beekeepers can work with the experts in our cluster.

Join me in attending our June meeting and renew your friendships and create new ones. Treasure your MSBA membership and keep your MSBA connection from lapsing. We are strong as a community and we can all use a kind work, and knowing nod, and a reassuring bit of advice in our quest to host the most amazing animal known to mankind.

I am very thankful it is almost summer. I hope to see you all at the June meeting.

David
