The Annual Membership Meeting was called to order by MSBA President Jim Fraser at 11:45 AM, there being a quorum of at least 30 MSBA members present.

Treasurer’s Report:
Robert Crouse delivered the Annual Treasurer’s Report (attached). MSBA holds total assets of $47,515.69.

Awards:
The Free State (Citizenship) Awardfor contributions to beekeeping in Maryland for 2018 was awarded to Robert Crouse on the occasion of his retirement as MSBA Treasurer.
The George Imirie Award for Educationwent to Dr. Samuel Ramsey of the University of Maryland.

 Honey Show:
The 2018 MSBA Honey Show had 64 entries from 21 exhibitors. Total classes offered totaled 47 with 34 receiving entries. Twenty premiums totaling $748.00 were awarded.

Elections
The floor was given to Toni Burnham, Chair of the Nominating Committeeand MSBA Secretary, to conduct elections.

The Chair reported that President Jim Fraser and First Vice President Kim Mehalickagreed to continue in their current positions, and accepted nomination for 2019. No additional nominations for these positions were received from the floor.

The position being vacated due to Robert Crouse’s retirement, Stefanie Ottensteinwas nominated to succeed as Treasurer of the Maryland State Beekeepers Association, Inc. No additional nominations for the position was received from the floor.

Maureen Jais-Mickand Carl Guerciagreed to be nominated as Directorsto succeed predecessors Bill McGiffin and Barry Thompson, who had reached the limits of their terms. No additional nominations for these positions were received from the floor.

The Chair reported that the majority of 2nd VPs were willing to stand for re-­election. The complete slate is listed below. There were no nominations from the floor.

Clyde Strang movedto accept the full slate of nominees by acclamation; the motion was seconded by Wayne Esaiasand passed by unanimous voice vote.

 

Amendments to Bylaws

MSBA members were asked to vote on two changes related to streamlining membership administration:

Question 1: Amendment to Article III, Section 1:“Membership shall be on a rolling one-year basis.”

Robert Crouse moved to accept, Phil Frank seconded, motion passed by count of hands: 68 in favor to 4 opposed.

Question 2: Amendment to Article III, Section 3: “A membership that has not been renewed by 365 days from the date of the existing membership, member shall be dropped from the rolls.”  Deborah Hewitt moved to accept, Jim Fraser seconded, motion passed by count of hands: 62 in favor to 10 opposed.
